Sembalun - 1 night

Sembalun is a beautiful village located on the eastern slopes of Mount Rinjani, known primarily as a base for those planning to trek up the mountain. However, for those (like me) who prefer to take in the serene surroundings rather than take on the challenging climb, Sembalun offers an incredible escape into nature.

The village is set within a stunning valley, surrounded by lush green hills, rice terraces, and traditional Sasak villages. The cool climate, thanks to its high elevation, makes it a perfect place for peaceful relaxation.

Sembalun has a unique mix of cultures, with its local community known for farming vegetables, fruits, and flowers, which thrive in the fertile soil of the valley. The area is less commercialized compared to other parts of Lombok, offering an authentic experience of rural life.

Because I only stayed in Sembalun for on night, I wasn’t able to do everything. So unfortunately I’m can’t tell you this from my own experiences. But by spending time with locals and driving through the area, I’ve learned a lot and I can’t wait to explore more of this beautiful area.

Sembalun is perfect for exploring the natural beauty through hikes around the area, visite waterfalls, streams, and vast open spaces that showcase Lombok’s landscapes. For nature lovers, there are plenty of short treks in the region that lead to viewpoints with panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Exploring Sembalun without the need for a Rinjani summit adventure provides a tranquil and fulfilling way to connect with the island’s natural beauty. And I can’t wait to go back to see more of Sembalun’s surroundings.
