Bandung - 2 nights
After about three hours from Jakarta, you find the city Bandung. I checked into my B&B, and went to a nearby sky bar. After experiencing digestive issues from eating Western food, I returned to the hostel, curious about what the next day in this big city would bring.
The next morning, I felt better and looked into sightseeing options. I found a guide to take me on a tour of some local attractions, including a luwak coffee factory and Tangkuban Perahu, an active volcano near Lembang, which I found beautiful and less crowded than the White Crater. We also visited a tea plantation, where I enjoyed a spiced tea with traditional Sundanese flavors, and a local dance and music show. Our city tour took us past significant landmarks, like Braga Street, with its art and bars, the 0 KM Bandung Point (the starting point of the historic Postweg trade route), and several Dutch colonial buildings. The day was overall enjoyable, mostly because of my amazing guide.
The following day, I visited Ereveld Pandu, a cemetery with over 4,000 graves, primarily of Dutch WWII victims. It was moving to see the respect given to this memorial. Afterward, I returned to the 0 KM Bandung Point to learn about its history, tied to the founding of Bandung in 1810. Then, I headed back to the hostel, collected my laundry, and booked my next train looking forward to my next destination.
