Secret Gili Islands - 1 night
Camping on an uninhabited island. That sounds incredibly cool, right? With my daypack filled snacks and beverage, I arrive at the small harbor of Sekotong, where we pick up snorkeling gear. We board a small boat, and as soon as we depart, the organizers pull out a guitar and cajon for some music. This is going to be awesome!
Our first stop is Gili Nanggu, where I spend over two hours snorkeling, capturing the underwater world with my GoPro. It’s absolutely wonderful! Next, we stop at Gili Sudak for lunch and, of course, more snorkeling.
By late afternoon, we reach tiny Gili Kedis, a small island with just a few trees and a hut. Surprisingly, there are other tourists, so it’s not as secret as I expected. We spend the evening enjoying the island, taking photos of a stunning sunset, and making music. As night falls, the other tourists leave, making us the only ones camping there.
We have a BBQ fish dinner with rice, and after a campfire, the musical vibe continues. I stay up playing music late into the night. Rather than sleeping in a tent, I decide to lay my mattress out on the beach and sleep under the stars, something I’ve always wanted to do.
At sunrise, I wake up and take a bunch of videos and photos, getting creative with solo travel shots. After a pancake breakfast, I go for a final swim and find out that the organizers took some amazing drone footage. Around 10 a.m., it’s time to head back to Kuta. This trip was absolutely incredible, and the memory will last forever. I’m sure of that!
